Imaging: CT stone protocol is without contrast. This picks up the stone better. A CT of the abdomen and pelvis is one year of background radiation. If you have further stone analysis ask your provider to consider and ultrasound first.

It means: that the technical parameters of the scan are tailored to maximize the ability to detect stones. Contrast is not administered. The theoretical radiation risk from 2 CT scans is extremely minimal, but you can calculate it, and put it into perspective, at xrayrisk.com
