If of sudden onset: and without fever or bloody stools then likely a viral enteritis especially with cramping from umbilicus and below. Normally over in 2-3 days as opposed to a bacterial enteritis which lasts until diagnosed and treated, is associated with bloody stools and fever. The last possibility if the symptoms are only 12-20 hrs old is appendicitis and should be examined soon.
