Not necessary: There are many causes of lymph node in neck- like infection, inflammation, autoimmune disease, malignancy etc . Infection/inflammation will be the most common causes. No therapy needed for viral infection, antibiotic is needed for infection. If lymph node enlargement is persistent- further eval is needed- and it may include a biopsy of lymph node. Treatment will depend on the cause obviously.

Enlarged lymph node: Enlarged lymph nodes of the head and neck can be several things. Often this is due to an infection, but certainly cancer must be ruled out. Nowadays we begin usually with an ultrasound guided fine needle aspirate (fna) which is a biopsy. If needed, then the entire lymph node or additional lymph nodes are removed surgically.
