No other disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber plus water, Miralax or Movicol (polyethylene glycol), Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, etc... Doctor can evaluate and may prescribe something helpful.

Some basics: Stool size & consistency are heavily influenced by your diet & stooling habits. The large intestine functions to store & extract water from poop. The longer you let it stay in, the harder/bulkier it gets. Some naturally move it along faster than others. If you are a slow mover , teaching yourself to empty more often & adding fiber to replace the miralax may help. You can also take it forever.
