A member asked:

I have a condition i have likened to "geographic tongue". is there any treatment that would help me get my tongue back to normal? this condition is very unsightly and sometimes it can be a cause of physical discomfort in the upper part of my tongue.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Oral surgeon: Although this is a benign condition and many with it have no symptoms, areas of the tongue may be sensitive to certain foods and spices. Special cortisone type creams suitable for mouth use may help. Bathing the tongue in maalox or glyoxide could be tried. Seeing an oral surgeon or going to an oral pathology department at a dental school are other suggestions.
