Depends on why: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or stomach reflux. With a positive strep swab, the question becomes, "Are you just carrying strep bacteria, which many people are; or is the strep bacteria causing your illness?" Life is not so simple.
