Some basics: The lymph nodes sift the bodies serum & remove debris/viral particles & germs. They swell when they are most active from pea size to larger when active & then shrink when inactive. They take in serum from nearby regions so localized bites/skin rash/infection are common triggers. The location/size/duration of swelling /& exam findings determine when a biopsy would be needed.
