A member asked:

Average glucose 140 recently diagnosed. prescribed janumet but am worried about pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer risk. is metformin 500 am/pm safer?

You don't need meds!: An avg glucose of 140 = A1c of 6.5. Yes, this means that you have diabetes, but good research tells us that the goal for blood sugar control is an A1c < 7 for everyone, and < 8 for "elderly" people. I'll let you define which category you fit into. ;) In any case, unless your A1c of 6.5 is on *other* diabetes medicines, you can absolutely control your diabetes with diet & exercise! No meds!
