Variable, and yes: The life expectancy of Brugada syndrome (BS) varies greatly as the condition is unpredictable. The average age of death is about 40 y, however, but that age is simply an estimate, as studies are limited. A genetic test exists but it has poor reliability to correctly identify those with BS. A clinical history and an EKG are used to screen first-degree relatives of patients with confirmed BS.
