Not considered safe: Breastfeeding when HIV positive is one way to infect a baby that otherwise made it through pregnancy safely. It is only considered when there is no access to safe water supplies to mix with formula. That is only because unsafe water can cause disease/death due to dysentery.

WHO guidelines: It depends if you under treatment, and if the viral load is decreasing, thenit may be possible to feed for 12 months.
