A member asked:

On penicillin since yesterday for tonsilitis, coughing up phlegm with blood in and choking on it. is this normal or a badreaction to it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Likely not: Bad tonsillitis can/does often create swollen, inflamed red tissue that will ooze blood if you cough. It is not a common sign of any drug reaction. I would suck on some ice chips for comfort. This can often help stop a cough.
