A cyst, or : abscess usually develops in an area where there is a "potential" space, and in the case at hand there was a small defect of closure in the ectoderm as a fetus. If there is no redness, heat, pain or drainage you can leave alone, or have electively removed but try not to manipulate (pick). This causes micro abrasions of the skin and introduces bacteria that can lead to acute infection
