When i run for about a mile, my left knee is really painful. how do i stay fit without this pain???

Knee pain: I recommend you do not continue running since this seems to aggravate the pain. It is possible to stay fit without running with exercise such as biking, swimming, walking briskly and using elliptical machines.

Agree with Dr. A: It is good that you exercise. You may try walking while carrying weight in a backpack. Walking is less traumatic to the joints than running. Carrying weight will increase the rigor of exercise.

Painful knee: You should get evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine specialist to see what is going on with that knee. Depending on what is causing the pain, there may be treatment available and/or tailored fitness programs to avoid stressing the knee.
