Indircetly: Statins inhibit and enzyme called HMG-CoA. This depletes your body of Co Q10 which is important for energy metabolism. This can have and effect on liver, muscles and brain. Common for people to get muscle cramps and breakdown with the medicine. This can elevate CPK which can effect your kidneys.

Statins: Agree with Dr.Hickerson. Discuss the risks and benefits in your case with your prescribing physician.

COQ10: is available to "replace" the depletion caused by statin drugs....Unfortunately it is quite expensive and the full benefits are not completely understood! Hope this is also helpful Dr Z
