A member asked:

Banged tongue dorsum w/ toothbrush. dime size red area. no pain. then brushed tongue now papillae/surface inflamed/irritated. how to help heal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Tongue: It's a bruise and will heal rapidly on its own. Baby the area. Don't brush it for a week or so. Rinse 3x/day with a tsp of salt in 80z of warm water, swish and spit out. nothing too hot or cold. Nothing too textured like crusty bread crust. Avoid highly spiced foods. Take 1 200mg Ibuprofen/Motrin/Advil every 4 hrs w food or liquids.
