Colonscopy: I would not recommend colonoscopy in patients with active diverticulitis. There is a higher risk of complications and perforation. In general, I would recommend, treatment with antibiotics for diverticulitis and then consider colonoscopy at a future time. I would recommend discussion and review with a gastroenterologist.

Timing of surgery +: Acute diverticulitis which occurs in 10%-20 %. In most patients, the disease is mild, responds well to antibiotic therapy and Colonoscopy is advised after an attack of acute diverticulitis in order to completely evaluate the colonic lumen and exclude a potential malignancy. However, it is best to postpone colonoscopy until symptom .subsided and perform it 6-8 wks after the attack
