A member asked:

Who do i see with regard to menopause, my gp or a gynaecologist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Menopause: In general, see a gyn. Although periods may not be happening regularly, true menopause on average occurs at age 54-56. If you are having heavy bleeding on occasion, and "hot flashes", you might have a smoother course (if no contraindications exist) with low dose oral bcp's which stop ovarian estrogen, and can be taken four or five packs in a row to stop uncomfortable symptoms of menopause.
