A member asked:

Can a shoulder fracture cause scapular dyskinesis?

Maybe, but...: Damage to the long thoracic nerve can cause winging of the scapula. This could potentially happen from a scapular or rib fracture, but as the nerve runs along the chest wall, other fracture locations are unlikely to damage that nerve.

Scapular dyskinesia : Yes a shoulder fracture can cause scapular dyskinesia. The causes can include secondary injury to the scapula muscles, a nerve injury, or a frozen shoulder. A physical therapist can help with the treatment. However, if the condition does not improve further evaluation is required.
