I cut my hand washing dishes on sunday. the cut required 7 stitches. the cut it at the base of my finger. the swelling is getting worse, and even extending to my hand w/ no drainage. how can i tell if its normal swelling or need to go back to doctor?

Not normal : This could be an infection that is spreading and needs to be evaluated as soon as possible.
