Ultrasound: An ultrasound scan at 8 weeks can confirm fetal heart detection, and one at 12 weeks can screen for some genetic abnormalities, and progression of fetal growth. If both ultrasounds were "normal", a repeat scan at 16 weeks is generally not required.
