Perimenopausal: In perimenopause, the ovaries require more stimulation to ovulate, and the pituitary production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) increases, producing higher estrogen levels which thicken the lining of the uterus. Eventually the lining will slough producing clots and heavy bleeding. Your gyn physician may prescribe a medication (methergine) to slow the bleeding, Ask him/her about oral bcp's.
