Some basics: The medication is a biologic compound that would be destroyed in part or completely by stomach acid. Some medications require a delivery system that avoids the digestive tract.

CGRP items are available in both injectable and oral variations, and it is a matter of familiarity and choice by the prescribing physician and the involved patient. Since orals are newer, there may be insurance preferences in coverage. Aimovig can only be given via injection.
