Not usually: The surgeon, when billing the insurance company, provides cpt "codes" for reimbursement that contain the appropriate diagnosis whatever that may be. You can avoid that disclosure through "cash only" payment for surgeons and hospital fees. Physicians' are ethically required to keep your medical information strictly confidential from anyone other than designated healthcare personnel and entities.

What are the reasons most hysterectomies are performed?

Dr. David Doucette answered

Bleeding & pain: Most hysterectomies are done when other methods fail to alleviate symptoms like abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain. Enlarged uterus, fibroids, endometriosis, and adenomyosis are some common causes of those symptoms. Hysterectomis are also done for cancerous conditions and sometimes in conjunction with pelvic relaxation corrective surgery.

Many reasons: There are a multitude of reasons a LAVH cannot be completed in this fashion. As follows: 1.)Morbid obesity 2). Inability to see the uterus due to adhesions of the bowel. 3.) Injury to the bladder, bowel or major blood vessels resulting in the need of repair or emergency opening of the abdomen.4.)A massively enlarged uterus that can't be morcellated. (cut up) 5.) Surgeon lack of expertise.
