A member asked:

Can amoxicillin 3 gms be taken earlier 2-3 hrs before the advised time of at least 30 mins to 1 hr prior to dental procedures required for some people?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Premedication: The recommended dose for prophylaxis of bacteremia caused by dental treatments is 2 grams of Amoxicilin 1 hour before dental appointment. Increasing the dose to 3 g does not increase the prophylaxis. You can increase time taking the Amoxicilin to 2 hours but best is to stay within the guidelines. It is also recommended to take it at least 30 min prior the appointment.
