Antibiotics: Antibiotics will not cure a dental abscess, just help control the severity and spread of the infection. You probably need root canal or removal and replacement of the infected tooth. Does your Dentist have an emergency contact number? He/she can call in an antibiotic renewal to help you until you can be seen for difinative treatment.

Emergency room: If your dentist will not see you on the weekend, look for a dental office that is open on Saturday. Otherwise, you can go to the ER for possible IV antibiotics or an increase in dosage of your existing prescription or a new prescription. It depends how severe your swelling is. A dental infection can be dangerous in some situations.
