See below: Stump appendicitis is a “rare” late complication of appendectomy characterized by recurrent inflammation of the residual appendix. The diagnosis is often delayed due to low index of suspicion. Symptoms and potential complications (eg abscess, peritonitis/sepsis, small bowel obstruction) similar to acute appendicitis. CT or ultrasound imaging and occasionally laparoscopy needed to confirm.
