IBS or infection: Chronic diarrhea for 2 years should be evaluated by your physician. A stool culture for abnormal bacteria and for eggs and parasites is standard. If these are negative for pathogens, then an irritable bowel syndrome is likely. Your physician will advise you about diagnosis and treatment.
