Do i need a referral to go and have a full blood cholesterol check?

NO: There are independent labs that will let you walk in and purchase lab testing. The concern is knowing how to interpret the results. I would recommend you have this testing in conjunction with a yearly Well Person visit, allowing your Physician to determine if additional tests are needed or risk factors are present.
