A member asked:

Hi! when i go for a fasting blood test to check glucose and cholesterol, if i use toothpaste and/or mouthwash before the fasting blood test, could the chemicals in the toothpaste and/or mouthwash affect the test results? should i wait till after test?

Not a problem: As long as your toothpaste and mouthwash do not contain sugar, or carbohydrates, there should be no problem whatsoever. Remember, not to eat after midnight if next day involves fasting blood testing.

WAIT IF CONCERNED : You brush and use mouthwash every day so don't be so concerned. Toothpaste contains fluoride and some mouthwashes contain small amounts of alcohol. There is not enough ingredients to affect the results of glucose levels. Rinse your mouth with water before your test if it will help your concern.
