YES: : safe procedure in the hands of a skilled urologist. Adult circucisions can be uncomfortable and possibly painful. Please discuss reasons for this surgery.

What exactly is circumcision and why do they do it?

Removal of foreskin: The foreskin is a piece of skin that covers the glans, or the head of the penis. In circumcision, this foreskin is removed. There is no medical necessity for this, but it is associated with a lower incidence of urinary tract infections, and penile cancer. Often it is done due to tradition or for religious reasons.

How could I go about getting a circumcision?

Be referred: If it's for you or your loved one or child, you will need to be referred to either a family practitioner or urologist trained to perform this kind of procedures. Family practitioners usually circumcise male infants until they reach 10 lbs or 2 weeks old (in my practice). Remember that most insurance won't pay for circumcision for religious/personal reasons nowadays.

What are the consequences of my circumcision?

It depends: There are no consequences of circumcision, as it is not something faulty that one does. If it's not done correctly, there may be some damage to the underlying penile structures, bleeding, excessive skin removal, etc. If it's done correctly, however, there should be no consequences. The only thing that I am aware of is those men who have had circumcision, may experience less sexual enhancement.

Is there evidence that circumcision reduces sexual sensation?

Circumcision: There is no evidence that circumcision reduces sexual sensation. If this is a problem then it could be psychological and a call to your doctor would be in order.
