is it safe for 2year 1 month old to have general anesthisia. he is undergoing circumcision for which doctor recommended general anesthisia.

Yes: In the hands of a properly trained team this is a routine procedure. We prefer for kids to be free of any respiratory illness that might be aggravated by the anesthesia when they undergo elective procedures, yet in emergent situations these kids tolerate anesthesia quite well,even sick.

Its important that this be done in a facility that handles children regularly. Otherwise I agree with Dr Ferguson.

Get a second opinion: I would ask another urologist if they would use general anesthesia versus sedation and a local block

I disagree as an anesthesiologist. Small child, small airway. Your "sedation" is really a light general anesthetic anyway without airway control. I trained a a majot pediatric center on the East Coast (CHOP in Phila) and we never did a circumsiion on a 2 yr old under "sedation/block". A penile block was often done after induction for post-op pain relief.
