Risks: Will be discussed with you by the surgical team. Typically same day surgery unless complicated.

Basics: This is a simple procedure but requires general anesthesia at that age. While it was done in the hospital setting 3-4 decades ago the safety & low complication rate moved it to a day surgery/outpatient surgicenter procedure. The attending docs would always consider an overnight stay if any problems were encountered but this would be a rare exception.

Not for Drs office: This is a surgical procedure which at age-6-years requires general anesthesia. Operation can be performed in day surhery center or hospital and all being well, can be discharged home about 1 hour after wake-up. This is nothing like dental procedures where anesthesia is often performed in the office.
