Get chronic pain checked especially if associated with stool changes. Severe Abdominal pain = emergency evaluation.

A 25-year-old female asked:
Is it normal when your left side of your abdomen has sharp pain?

Not normal: having sharp pain at the left side of the abdomen. This could be a lot of think since you do not give full history. Such as ovarian cyst , gi problems such as diverticulitis, muscle strain, hernia , abcess, etc. Do you have fever? Any change in your bowel habit? Did you miss your period? See a doctor. An ultrasound or ct scan of the abdomen is probably needed.

I have a pain on the left side of abdomen below the rib cage?

Multiple causes.: Pain below left side of rib cage maybe muscular in origin, and/or related to the ribs. Muscle strain is possible. If is worsening or not resolving you must get checked. Other possibilities include stomach, liver, or even spleen disorders.

Pain on left side of abdomen?

Nature of pain?: Left sided pain in a male could be a hernis, kidney stone, diverticular disease, pancreatitis and even just gas or constipation. We look at the location, the type of pain, lab tests, x-rays and, of course, examine the patient. There are lots of other possibilities as well. If pain gets worse or does not just go away you should see your doctor.
