Likely viral: This is a common pattern with many viral illnesses. For some the pattern & rash are so consistent a name can be applied to the cause, like roseola where the rash appears as the fever fades. Without seeing the kid it is difficult to be sure. If the fever persists & the kid acts fine you can monitor it at home as long as the kid takes fluids well.
