Yes: In about 98% of the cases you will be completely numb and not feel anything during the entire procedure. In those few cases when we have what is called a "hot tooth" which is caused by an acute infection, we may have trouble at first getting you completely numb. This is easily handled very quickly by a number of different methods. Discuss this issue with your own dentist.

Yes: Your dentist sould be able to have the tooth profoundly anesthetized (numbed) prior to the initiation of the root canal treatment. If he/she is unable to do so, ask to be referred to an endodontist, who is a root canal specialist.
