Can happen: Pain from a damaged tooth can often be felt on an adjacent tooth or even another tooth on the same side of your face. This is referred pain, and that is why after examining you, your dentist determined that it is your 4th tooth that needs root canal therapy, not your 3rd. This diagnosis has been made with a clinical exam and radiographs, together with years of experience.

It is normal: and very common. Secondary pain is often called referring pain (from one tooth to another), a general term used to designate pain perceived by the patient in an area other than its true site of origin.
