Several types!: Spondylitis or degenerative disc disease which causes facet arthritis. Certainly there are many causes for lower back pain other than these two. The first is inflammatory, the other causes osteoarthritis of the facet joints! the former more likely affects younger people, the latter is more common with age!

Osteoarthritis: Most commonly degenerative disc disease related to osteoarthritis. A small percentage of patients can have back arthritis related to inflammation as in ankylosing spondylitis and related disorders.
