A member asked:

I have recurring bv. i started taking acidophilus just because right before bv started recurring (3-4 caps daily) can too much acidophilus cause bv?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No confirmed data: BV in theory occurs when healthy lactobacillus germs commonly found in the vagina are displaced by aggressive bacteria. Efforts to replace these beneficial germs with oral supplements are promoted as a useful add on to common treatments. So far, it has not been shown to have a predictable benefit. Suffice it to say it might be helpful for some. Too much/too little=unknown.
