It would help: If you are prediabetic, then you need to cut down on sugar intake, reduce the amount of food/calories that you consume and lose some weight in case you are overweight. These precautrtions and adding exercise to your daily routine can all help reduce your blood sugar and prevent the onset of diabetes/improve your prediabetes.

Not really: Normal, obese, prediabetes and diabetes are all dots in a row. You progress from one to the next over time as you age and gain weight. If you lose a lot of weight through diet and exercise, you can go back down the line slightly and make your lab numbers better, but you never change the basic process -- which will again worsen over time or with weight gain. It's not just lab values.
