A member asked:

Arthritictmjj with ant disc diplacement for10years+and 2 artroscopies can cause ligaments to entirely tear due to permanent strech&cause nerve damage?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Short answer: is yes, it can if your TMJ has been scoped and replaced several times. Scar tissue is a real concern for this area of the body. Your joint health will improve if you try not to overuse it and use topicals/ ice to make sure it does not get inflamed often. Repetitive motion (opening mouth or chewing) will continue to overuse your TMJ. Thanks for trusting in HealthTap.
