A member asked:

Ecg + echo in nov 2017 showed ecg was perfect & ef was 68%. new echo done 2 days ago dr says ef 34% and heart failure. can ef drop that much in 1year?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes given that: ultrasounds are subjective in their interpretation at times. difference can be rather impressive between 1 study and the next. Having said that, if you have an acute catastrophic event that caused the heart failure (like a viral illness, or pulmonary embolus, or lung disease, or heart attack), then your EF can drop quickly. The onus is on your physician to find that cause and treat it.
