A member asked:

If someone has mild atelectasis that isnt going away on its own how long do you give it before being admitted in hospital ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pulmonologist: It isn't necessarily a need to be hospitalized as mild atelectasis can be evaluated by a pulmonologist. A chest ct scan would be helpful in ruling out a bronchial obstruction, pneumonia or tumor. Perhaps some pulmonary physical therapy is all you need to open up the atelectatic area or it may not be considered significant.
