A member asked:

My 7 year old just had no2 at the dentist. she said she couldn't hear out of one ear and seems to keep having a dry cough. should i be worried, is she allergic.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not an allergy: Nitrous oxide is a gas & you can't be allergic to it, but you can have a reaction to it. As an inhaled anesthesia it can irritate & trigger cough. If she is not hearing well out of one ear she likely has Eustachian tube dysfunction and a bit of middle ear fluid accumulation. This should all pass within a few days.
