Co2 absorption : The gas that was used at the time of your surgery was CO 2(carbon dioxide) which, when trapped under the diaphragm, causes the rib pain. Most surgeons express the residual gas manually and/or reversing the surgical table positioning at the end of the procedure. Unfortunately, the gas takes several days to resorb, but you can lie on the affected side and get the "bubble" to move temporarily.
