A member asked:

Will taking spironolactone 100 mg worsen my asthma? i do feel it is now harder to manage. the mucus feels thicker.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diuretics, such as : spironolactone, cause the body to excrete more fluid, so there is less fluid available to liquefy secretions, or, as you put it, mucus is thicker. This can interfere with lung conditions like asthma that cause mucus production. Be sure to drink 8 glasses of fluid. Please discuss your side effects with your doctor. It may be helpful to use a nebulizer with saline to help moisten your secretions
