Intubation: The trachea intubation shouldn't affect the thyroid gland, but it could be injured during a percutaneous tracheostomy. If so, I would expect later onset of underactive thyroid if enough thyroid tissue was damaged. This would be an unusual event in my opinion,but I would be interested in the thyroidologist's opinion about this.
