4.6 cm: is aneurysmal. 4cm is the rule of thumb for the upper limit of normal for the ascending aorta. Another method is the ratio of the diameter of the ascending aorta to the diameter of the descending aorta. A ratio of more than 1.5 or 2.0 suggests an aneurysm.
