A member asked:

I have a heart rate monitor which i have proven to be accurate by checking my pulse, and i have noticed it sits around 50 at rest. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Slow rate: Your resting heart rate of 50/minute is slower than the average of 70 for your age, but may not be abnormal. If you have no symptoms of lightheadedness or blood pressure abnormalities and your heart rate increases properly with exercise, it points to normalcy. An EKG done at rest can document the presence or absence of any abnormal heart rhythm.
