A member asked:

My bilirubin dropped from 4.4 to 4.0 in a matter of 20 days. i had second inguinal hernia surgery and before the surgery it was 2.3. is this bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

High bilirubin: If you have Gilbert's syndrome, a congenital chronic elevation of the indirect bilirubin, this is probably a benign finding. However,I recommend that a gastroenterologist be consulted for thorough and expert evaluation of this hyperbilirubinemia especially if you have no known history of elevated indirect bilirubin. Liver, gall bladder, alcohol xs or pancreatic disease would otherwise be a concern.
