Short answer yes: There has been a lot of research comparing the different ways to fix hernias. There is really very little difference. The most important factor is what method your surgeon is most comfortable using. There have been reports of complications with all mesh hernia repairs but are not common. The thing is, repair without mesh is not close to as reliable as with mesh. Talk to your surgeon more.
